All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** CHARLES ZERKOWSKY The funeral of Charles Zerkowsky, one of the largest property owners of Natchez and Ferriday, La., who died at a Natchez sanitorium last Tuesday night following a long illness, was held at the family home in St. Catherine street last Wednesday afternoon with Benjamin Geisenberger, of the Temple B'Nai Israel reading the services. Following acted as pall-bearers: Harry Viener, Dr. L. C. O'Farrell, J. F. Tildsley, Lee Parker, Jr., Joe Kaiser and Ben Stockner. Zerkowsky was born in New York in 1865 and was the son of Rebecca Kohn and Aaron Zerkowsky and was seventy years of age at the time of his death. Since coming to Natchez more than sixty five years ago as a child, Mr. Zerkowsky had made his home here and is survived by two brothers, Seaman and Isaac Zerkowsky, a nephew, Sam M. Zerkowsky of Boston, Mass., and two nieces Miss Ruth Jennette Zerkowsky of New York City and Ruth Dorothy Zerkowsky of Natchez. Mr. Zerkowsky waged an active fight against floods and before his death he arranged a plan for flood control which was well received by newspaper readers when it was published in several papers. He took active interest in flood control, owning considerable property in Ferriday, Vidalia and through- out the area affected by the high water.
