Burgess, Eleventh Judicial District, Division "A", was appointed Judge on September 9, 1966, and took his oath of office on September 13, 1966. On December 9, 1966, he was elected to serve on a six-year term as judge of the Eleventh Judicial District. His term expires in 1972. Judge Burgess previously served as Assistant District Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial District. He resigned from this position on Septmeber 12, 1966 to accept the interim appointment as District Judge. He was born on September 6, 1916. He is a native of Mansfield, Louisiana, and his early education was in Mansfield Schools. He re- ceived his BA from Louisiana State Normal in 1939 and his LLB from L.S.U. School of Law in 1947. Judge Burgess practiced law in Mansfield from the date of his admission to the Bar to date of appointment as Judge. The Judge entered the service in June 1941, as a private. He served overseas in Iceland Base Command and European Theatre. He received four battle stars, and was released from military service in January, 1946, with rank of Captain in Infantry. On August 22, 1946, Judge Burgess was married to Dorothy Huffman. They are the parents of two daughters, Eva and Sue, and one son, Robert. Judge Burgess belongs to the Chamber of Commerce, and the Lions Club of Mansfield, Louisiana. He is also a member of the First Pres- byterian Church of Mansfield, Louisiana. His hobbies are hunting and fishing. * * *
