Submitted by Greggory E. Davies 120 Ted Price Lane Winnfield, LA 71483 Darrel Mayes, outstanding Winnfield Tiger guard, was picked for the 1957 Class A All-State team, in selections announced the past week. Mayes, a junior, played his second year on the Tiger varsity during the 1957 grid campaign, and was rated by coaches as among the tops. He will be a mainstay in the line next season being relied on to carry on with numerous ninth and tenth graders being brought up to replace the 17 squadmen lost this year, in the rebuilding program anticipated next year. The local lineman was picked for the guard position along with Billy Heckel of Slidell, Jim St. John of St. Francis, and John Burns of Tallulah. Other District 1-A players making the All-State selections were Carl Hemphill and Alex Monsour of Mansfield, and Everett Brooks of LaSalle, Danny Neumann and Dick Brown, both of whom saw action against the Tigers in the bi-district playoff with Tallulah, were All-Staters also.
