Last Sunday night, between 8 and 9 o'clock, two men visited the residence of Mr. R.F. Ridgway, about 12 miles southeast of this place, with the avowed purpose of killing or whipping his wife. They saw her in the yard and immediately seized her by the throat. One of them attempted to cut her throat; but in the struggle Mrs. R. threw up her hands and the fiend's knife struck her head, cutting a quantity of hair from her head. They then threw her to the ground and choked her until she was insensible and left her for dead. Her head and neck were badly bruised. Her husband was in the house, but she did not have an opportunity of calling to him, so quick and sudden were the movements of the would-be assassins. She is still alive, although at last accounts she was in a critical condition. We do not know that there is any clue to the perpetrators of this fiendish act. We hope, however, there is; and we do hope they may be ferreted out and have that punishment meted out to them they so richly merit. - Mansfield Reporter.
