Abington, who died at Converse sanitarium Monday morning, were held at Old Union Baptist church in DeSoto parish Tuesday morning at 10:30, with the Dennis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Rev. Butler Abington of Fort Smith, Ark., son of the deceased, assisted by Rev. Cecil Williams, pastor of First Baptist church of Many, conducted the funeral services. Mr. Abington was born and reared in Sabine parish. He was married to Miss Maggie Butler of DeSoto parish, who died at her home here 11 years ago. E. Dillon 19 Sep 1952 - Dr. W. E. Dillon, 77-year-old Logansport resident and physician of North Louisiana for many years, died at his home at 9:30 p.m., last Wednesday after a long illness. Dr. Dillon was a native of Many and was graduated from the Memphis Medical college, now known as the University of Tennessee. He did post-graduate work at Tulane university. Dr. Dillon practiced medicine in Pineville, Elizabeth and throughout Sabine parish for many years. He was a member of the Many Baptist church, the Florien Masonic lodge. Joe E. Hinkie Funeral services for the Rev. Joe E. Hinkie, 87, of Shreveport, were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, in the Barksdale Baptist Church. The Rev. Mr. Hinkie, who served some 34 churches during his ministry, died at 9 p.m., Wednesday, in Lincoln General Hospital in Ruston, after a long illness. The Rev. Mr. Hinkie was a native of Grand Cane, and had lived in the Shreveport area for 52 years. He was ordained into the ministry at the First Baptist Church of Mansfield. He was educated at Mansfield High School, Louisiana College in Pineville, Baptist Bible Institute in New Orleans, and Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Tex. The retired Southern Baptist minister pastored eight congregations, and served as part-time minister at 26 others. The Rev. Mr. Hinkie was also a missionary in Missouri, and Caddo Association Missionary in Shreveport. He has served as moderator of several Baptist Boards. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, a Mason, and a past president of the Lions Club. The Rev. Mr. Hinkie was a member of Parkview Baptist Church of Shreveport. He was also very active in the Northwest Louisiana Chapter the American Red Cross. He participated in sports at Pelican High School and excelled in track. He set records at Northwestern State College and in the the United States Marine Corps, winning the Penn State Relays High Hurdles. He received his B.Sc in Physical Education/ Spanish from Northwestern State College. He obtained a Masters in AdministratJon from Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas. He pursued a Counseling Degree at the University of Mississippi at Hattiesburg, where he received his +30 Degree. He served in the United States Marine Corps as First Lieutenant froml952 to 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He was an educator in Sabine Parish, having served as, teacher, coach, counselor and principal. Mr. Patton was preceded in death by his father, Rufus 0. Patton, and his mother, Mamie E. Dr. Robinson was a native of Minden, and a graduate of Louisiana State University, and the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. After serving with the U. S. Army, he completed his residency training at the Huey P. Long Charity Hospital at Pineville in 1959. Dr. Robinson practiced in Springhill from 1959 until 1969, and completed a residency training program in radiology at Confederate Memorial Medical Center in 1972, before becoming a faculty member in the Department of Radiology at LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. He resigned from the department in 1973, and was engaged in private practice until his death. Dr. Robinson practiced at Pleasant Hill during 1973-74. During his high school years he attended Pelican High School where his father, the late A. E. Robinson was principal for several years. He was a member of the American Academy of General Practice, the Shreveport and Louisiana Medical Societies, the American Medical Association, the Radiological Socity of North America, First Presbyterian Church, and Gen. Richard Taylor Camp 1306 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Dr. Robinson was a past president of the 4th district Association of General Practitioners, and a fellow of the American Geriatric Society. Burial followed at Carmel Cemetery. Mr. Spann is survived by his dearly beloved wife, Eva Ann Margiotta Span of Logansport, La; loving children, Gina C. Jones and husband. Dean of Sulphur, Maria E. Spann of Shreveport and James N. Spann and wife, Sally of Pleasant Hill, La; his pride and joy, granddaughters; Samantha C. and Sarah A. Jones of Sulphur, Elaina N. and Laura C. Spann of Pleasant Hill, La; his mother, Mrs. Mildred P. Lindsey of Joaquin, Texas; one brother, Thomas E. Spann and wife Ilyene of Marietta, Ga., and Don Spann Cogswell and wife, Theresa of Logansport; and sister Clarice Morgan of California. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ed Delahoussaye Spann; his father, Edward Dorsey Spann; and brother, Howard L. Spann. He was a high school gradate in 1959 from Logansport High School. Mr. Spann received his higher education from Stephen F. Austin University Nacogdoches,. Texas; Southern College of Medical Technology, Houston, Texas, in Medical Laboratory Science; the University of Texas at Austin, Texas; and post graduate work at Trinity University, San Antonio.Texas. He devoted 32 years to the field of Health Care Administration with employment in several small to large hospitals in Louisiana and Texas. During his tenure in these medical facilities, Mr. Spann served each medical community in many capacities; Brazos Valley Development Council, Bryan, Texas; Executive Secretary of Washington County Society, Brenham, Texas; Executive Secretary of Walker, Trinity and Madison Counties Medical Society, Huntsville, Texas; Program Director Allen Parish Medical Society, Kinder; Board for Directors, Leon Memorial Hospital, Tomball, Texas; Executive Director of Joe B. Davis School of Nursing and Executive Director of Walker County EMS, Huntsville, Texas. Mr. Spann was nominated and listed in the 1986-87 Who's Who of the South and Southwest in Health Care Administration. He was also administrator for the Hospital Corporation of America. He not only worked with in his chosen profession but also for his community and his church, being a devout Catholic. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, DeSoto Council #2432 and the Bishop Desmond Assembly #324, 4th degree, Shreveport. He was a member of the Diocesan Liturgical commission, of Shreveport. He served as Vice President for six years on the Battle of Pleasant Hill Committee. His love of music brought him to be the organist of St. Jude Catholic Church in Logansport and later became choir director for St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mansfield. Bridges. Mrs. Tarbox was preceded in death by her her husband, Mr. Solon P. Tarbox; parents, Dr. R. L. Mrs. Tarbox is descended from the prominent Armstrong family, who were among the early settlers of the Old Pleasant Hill Community. She was born Oct. 23, 1899, to her parents, Dr. R. L. Armstrong, Jr. and Hattie O'pry Armstrong. Mrs. Tarbox received her early childhood schooling and secondary education at Pleasant Hill High. After graduating from Pleasant Hill High School, she attended Louisiana State Normal College (now Northwestern State University) in Natchitoches, receiving certification in primary education 1921. She begin her teaching career in Jennings , where she met Solon P. Tarbox. They were married on December 23,1922. Returning several years later to Sabine Parish, she and Mr. Tarbox took up residence in the old family home in Pleasant Hill. She entered the Sabine Parish School System about 1935 teaching second grade in Pleasant Hill and continued in this position for 29 years. Her retirement in 1964 culminated 33 years of dedicate service to the teaching profession. Mrs. Tarbox was a dedicated and devoted member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service for many years, holding various offices and being always willing to participate in programs and activities of the organization. Mrs. Tarbox was also selected in 1983 by the Pleasant Hill contingent of Delta Kappa Gamma, PSI Chapter, to be honored as an outstanding educator from Sabine Parish. Miss Tatum earned the bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees with honors, from Baylor University, and taught for years in Mansfield public schools, later teaching kindergarten in Mansfield's First Baptist Church school. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of retired public schools teachers. J. Webb 4 Jun 1943 - Mrs. M. J. Webb, 81, resident of Sabine parish for many years, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. H. Sowell at Mansfield Monday morning after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday 10 a.m. at Drewitt funeral home, conducted by Rev. E. L. Carnett, pastor of Fist Baptist church of Mansfield. Interment was in Highland cemetery under the direction of Drewitt funeral home. Pallbearers were grandsons of Mrs. Webb: Paul Matthews, Printess Beasley, Pierce Sibly, Ribon Adams, Hilard Dykes and Sherman Bentley. Mrs. Webb is survived by five daughters, Mrs. W. H. Sowell of Mansfield, Mrs. E. H. Matthews of Waterproof, Mrs. R. R. Roberts of Joplin, Mo., Mrs. J. M. Sowell of Many and Mrs. A. L. Dykes of Shreveport; four sons, S. C. Bentley of Shreveport, V. R. Bentley of Ashdow, Ark., W. E. Robinette and M. E. Webb, both of Mansfield; 26 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Webb was born in Lincoln parish but moved to Sabine parish when very young. She was the wife of the late William Whittington (Whit) Webb, who has many relatives throughout Sabine parish. Mr. Wilson, who would have observed his 102nd birthday on Sept. 16, 1951, died about 4:45 a.m. Sunday in Prothro clinic at Pleasant Hill following an short illness. A native of Grifin, Ga., the centenarian, who was affectionately known as "Uncle Bob" moved in Louisiana with his parents when he was a child. He had resided in Natchitoches, DeSoto and Sabine parishes for the past 89 years. He rode with Gen. J. B. Stewart's calvary as a private during the Civil War, fighting in the Battle of Mansfield and other campaigns. His father, "Keeler Bill" Wilson, lived to be 104. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Watts, Longview, Mrs. Lee Neal and Miss Jewella Wilson, with whom he resided, both of Pleasant Hill; two sons, W. O. Wilson, Shreveport, and Leon Wilson, Pleasant Hill;; two sisters, Mrs. Florence McCaskill and Miss Sarah Wilson, both of Marshall, Texas, 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Robinson, J. E. Mulloy, A. J. Julian, W. E. Baker, M. L. Odom. Mr. Youngblood conducted a successful mercantile business in Noble for many years and left a host of friends all over Sabine parish. He was active in civil and political affairs in the community. Many lovely floral offering attested the high esteem in which he was held.
