Clark Hughes) was born December 14, 1869 to Samuel Patten & Elizabeth (Greening) DuBois. She died about 1899. The following are two newspaper obituaries, probably from Shreveport, Bossier City, or Mansfield. "Obituary" "The announcement of the death of Mrs. W.C. Hughes, nee Miss Lula J. DuBois, brings to our heart that keen sorrow which bespeaks an irreparable loss. While she was with us we were not slow to give her praise, and now that she sleeps in death with the light of her beautiful example shut out from us forever, we beg to lay this humble offering a tribute to her memory." "She was an ideal woman; she possessed a strong mind, well rounded and modified by thr restraints of natural modesty and inate refinement; she was actuated by the highest forms of principle -- her unswerving integrity commanded respect of even the unworthy, who would come in contact with her in the business world." "She graduated at the Mansfield Female College and immediately took her place in the front rank of the great army of bread winners, and side by side with many true women and men, worked for five years as a teacher." In June, 1893 she was married to Mr. W.C. Hughes of Bossier Parish, a man of pronounced ability and fine family; they at once established themselves in their own home, which has been 'home' in the truest fullness of the word. Nothing was lacking to bring the sunshine of happiness into it. The impress of her gentle hand, the expression of her exquisite taste, was manifest throughout, and husband and two lovely little daughters will miss her daily ministration 3with a grief too deep for words. The tenderest ties have been broken. Yet there is one great comfort -- she was a Christian. She loved and feared God. Her hope was in Christ and His resurrection and we know that when this mortal puts on immortality that she will enter the Heavenly Jerusalem and 'So ever be with the Lord'." Clarke Hughes, one of Nature's richly gifted daughters, laid down her life like one who draws the drapery of his couch about himand lays down in pleasant dreams." The last day of her earthly pilgrimage has closed and the end was peace; and though not midway on life's pathway the summons came; 'Prepare to meet thy God, ' and how beautiful the reply; 'Thou callest me, O Lord! and here am I.' Yet in the prime of life, with a past without a regret, and a future that seemed bright and beautiful, this summons came from God 'Come unto me and enter the Kingdom I have prepared for you, and be at rest'." "In response to this call, one of God's noblest creatures--a good woman, the burden of life and her soul freed from the casket that held it, entered Jordan's icy stream, crossed to the other side, entered the Kingdom of God, whence it came, there to dwell forever more in the presence of the Prince of Peace. It is always sad, this parting from our loved ones, and having to go out into the unknown, but it is the will of God, and we do not complain, but Submit patiently and remember the promises declared unto mankind by our Saviour, and from them we know that our loved one will be received into open arms, and the Divine acceptance, 'well done, good and faithful servant'. We sorrow, but this is only a change by which she will be exalted and we hope to so direct our lives that after a few years here are spent and we are summoned to our final reqards we will again be with her and with the angels around the great white throne forever sing 'Glory to God on highest, one earth peace, good will toward men'."
