At the outbreak of the war he enlisted in Company F, Henry Marshall Guards, and served with distinction in the 19th Louisiana Regiment throughout the entire war. A history of that regiment would be a history of nearly every battle fought by the Army of Tennessee. As a regimental color bearer he was always in the forefront, and was seriously wounded several times. In the battle before Atlanta, having been shot through the body, he was left for dead. He reached home after the conflict a seasoned veteran, though still not old enough to vote. Since the war he had held various positions of trust with marked fidelity and credit. He was a member of the Methodist Church and a man of large-hearted charities. His home was in Mansfield. Submitted by J. Hugh LeBaron, great grand nephew HLebaron@aol.com
