After a useful life of more than 90 years, he was laid to rest on Saturday afternoon in the Longstreet cemetery. In 1846 when was with Mexico was declared and James K. Polk issued a call for 50,000 volunteers, he responded to the call and rendered valiant service for his country. In 1861 he again enlisted and fought bravely under the Stars and Stripes until the Civil war was ended. C.G. Jackson, a friend of the deceased, is living here, and is also a veteran of the same two wars. He is the only man in De Soto who now enjoys this distinction. (The Shreveport Times, dated 5 Jan 1909) Mansfield Enterprise: Mr. Martin Lacy of Longstreet died at that place on Friday last. The deceased was ninety years of age, and one of our most respected citizens. He was a Veteran of the Mexican War, and served with the Fifth Louisiana Volunteers. He also served through the Civil War as a Confederate soldier, and always measured up to the standard of a good man and useful citizen.
