Sheppard aged 84 years passed away at 2:00am., Wednesday. She was the widow of the late Rev. John Lovic Pierce Sheppard and has been a resident of Mansfield since 1900. Her husband, for many years was a distinguished minister of the Methodist Episcopal South Church. She became his wife during the Civil War after he fought in the battle of Vicksburg. The story of this war-time marriage was thrilling in the extreme, as presented by her husband, in a story published in the 'Enterprise' shortly before his death. It was the most glorious tribute a wife could have. Mrs. Sheppard was a native of Catahoula Parish and has been a long standing member of the Methodist Church, and she and her husband enshrined themselves in the hearts of the people of Mansfield by their hard work on behalf of the Mansfield Female College. The decedent leaves four children: John Hawkins Sheppard of Ark.; Mrs. Martha E. Simmons of Alden Bridge, La; Mr. H. Jewel Sheppard of Mansfield; and Mr. Chris Keener Sheppard of Mansfield. The funeral services will be from the residence of Chris Keener Sheppard Wednesday, April 15th with Rev. John Brandon Peters, H.R. Holcomb, and Dr. Wynn of Shreveport officiating. Interment will be in the Mansfield Cemetery. Submitted by Terry Doughty, grt., grt, grand daughter
