Williams, Baton Rouge, the present efficient assessor of East Baton Rouge parish, La., was born in this parish in 1851, and is a son of Dr. I. A. Williams. He passed an uneventful youth in the parish of his birth, attending the common schools a portion of the year. When he started out in life he engaged in the occupation of farming, and followed this honorable calling until 1888. In 1880 he was appointed deputy sheriff under J. W. Bates, and in 1888 he was elected assessor of the parish. He is well qualified for this office, and has discharged his duties to the entire satisfaction of the public. In 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Laville A. Young, a daughter of the late H. C. Young, who was a member of the state legislature of 1876. Mrs. Williams is also a Louisianian by birth. Six children were born to our subject and wife, all sons and all living. Mr. Williams is a member of Plains lodge, No. 135, A. F. & A. M., and of Heron lodge, No. 78, Knights of Pythias, and to the Knights of Honor lodge, No. 2662. Dr. I. A. Williams was born in East Baton Rouge parish. La., in 1820. He owned large planting interests in Louisiana, and before the war was a member of the state legislature. He was married in 1848 to Mrs. Faulkner, a native of the same parish, born in 1825.
