Genealogical Register, June, 1968 St. Joseph Cathedral Funeral Records 1818-1832 Submitted by: Elizabeth Becker Gianelloni (Mrs. S.J. Gianelloni, Jr.), Longwood Plantation, Baton Rouge, La. The funeral records of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, begin with the foundation of the parish church of St. Joseph in 1793, and are in the custody of the Department of the Archives, Diocese of Baton Rouge, in Baton Rouge. The entries from 1793 through 1815 were abstracted several years ago by Mrs. E.A. Broders and appeared in "The Register" (Volume 11, Number 2, pp 21-24). The records for 1816 and 1817 have long been lost. Most of the funeral entries are quite brief, but many yield information as to the origin of the deceased, and other genealogical data, not all of which could be included in the following published abstract. Most entries are for inhabitants of East and West Baton Rouge, but there are several mentions of persons from Pointe Coupee, Bayou Sara, Iberville, and elsewhere. 1818 Babin, Apollinaire, son of Joseph and Marine Hebert Fachou, Hortance, dau of Jean Fachou Patain, name and age omitted Bastarache, Marie Modeste, wid.
