All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** No. 276 Know all men by these presents that I James Newsom, of the Parish of East Baton Rouge, State of Louisiana, have this day bargained and sold, unto William B. Smith, and John F. McCaa, both of the Parish and State afore- said, a certain tract or parcel of land, containing four hundred and Ninety acres, Situated about fifteen miles East of the Town of Baton Rouge, and lying on the west side of the River Amite and bounds on the East by the said River, on the North by the land of Wesley Chambers, West by Vacant land, South, by the same, which is part of a Donation, granted to Jacob Chambers by Settlement Containing Six Hundred and Forty acres of Land, which Donation of land was sold at the Probate Sale of the Estate of Jacob Chambers, and the said James Newsom, became the purchaser which will appear by a Certificate from the Parish Judge of this Parish, and it also appears that there is no mortages on the land, by a Certificate from the Recorder of Mortages, for the Parish of East Baton Rouge hereunto annexed, and also a Stock of Horned Cattle, Containing twenty four head and the Stock of Hogs, Containing fifty Head more or less, for the Consideration of Eleven Hundred dollars to be paid in the following manner, Viz, Two Hundred and fifty dollars Cash, to me in hand paid the receipt where of I do acknowledge, and four Hundred and fifty dollars to be paid in the month of January Eighteen Hundred and thirty one, and the balance being Four Hundred dollars to be paid in the month of January, Eighteen Hundred and thirty two, and it is also to be rememb- ered that, out of the above tract of land there is about one acre to be reserved where the Meeting House now stands, Known by the name of Salem Meeting House, and likewise one acre to be reserved for a Burying Ground, at the usual (?) place. I, the said James Newsom, in and for the above Consideration, do Warrants and defends, the above described tract of Land from my self, my Heirs, and assigns unto the said William B. Smith, and John F. McCaa these Heirs and assigns forever, and the said purchasers have signed with me, a Recording of this Sale in their favour, and in presence of John Allen and William Hawes of parties (?) Witnesses, on this 20th day of May in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight Hundred and thirty. Signed, James Newsom, Wm. B. Smith, John F.
