All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** LAND DONATED FOR THE ERECTION OF A COURT HOURSE FOR THE PA5RISH OF EAST BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA 1813 The following document was found in the Court house, Baton Rouge, Louisiana in Judge’s Book “C”, Entry #25, page 27. “State of Louisiana Parish of East Baton Rouge On this tenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen before me, Andrew Steele, Parish Judge, performing the duties of Notary Public of the said Parish, personally came and appeared Bartholemi Toutant Beauregard, Manuel Toutant Beauregard, Victoire Beauregard, wife of Patrice Leonard duly authorized by the said Patrice (Leonard) he being here present & consenting to this act, and Marie Rose Beauregard, wife of Jacques Guesnon Junior, duly authorized by the said Jacques Guesnon here also present and consenting of this act, which said appearers declare that having heretofore voluntarily given & granted seven Town lots in that part of the Town of Baton Rouge laid off by the late Mr. Elie Beauregard to be converted into a fund for the purpose of defraying part of the expense of erecting a Court House for the said parish of East Baton Rouge, on condition that the Parish jury of said Parish should cause the said building to be erected on the Lot of ground designated for the Intendance on the plan of the said Beauregard’s Town and the said Parish jury having acceded to the conditions aforesaid and named Mssrs. Charles Tanneret, William Dewees, Dudley Avery and Cornelius (last name omitted here) as Trustees to superintend the erection of said Building, giving to the said Trustees or a majority of them full power to receive the donation aforesaid for the use above mentioned – Now in consideration of the premises give, grant, assign and convey to the said William Dewees, Charles Tanneret, Dudley Avery and Cornelius Baldwin or a majority of them for the use aforesaid the said seven Town Lots of the numbers according to the said plan of Beauregard’s Town and of the description following viz= Lots Nos. 2 & 3 of the Square number sixty four containing sixty feet in front by one hundred & twenty feet in depth, the property of the said Bartholemi T. Beauregard – Lots. Nos. four and nine of the said Square No. 64, the property of Manuel T. Beauregard – Lots Nos. eight of square No. sixty six and number nine of the square number sixty seven, the property of the said Victoire Beaurgard –and Lot number eight of the square number sixty four, the property of the said Marie Rose Beauregard – each of the said Lots containing sixty feet in front by one hundred and Twenty feet in depth – and the said apearers do by these presents authorize & empower the Trustees before named and a majority of them to have, hold, occupy & possess the said described seven Town Lots and to alienate, sell or otherwise dispose of the same as may be found not expedient & beneficial for the purpose for which the said donation is made – and the said Charles Tanneret, William Dewees, Dudley Avery and Cornelius Baldwin accept the donation aforesaid in trust for the use aforesaid.
