Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. BATON ROUGE AND SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC ROAD As the name infers, this road connected the towns of Baton Rouge and Springfield. It crossed the Amite River at Mrs. Harrell's Ferry between Sections 54 and 55, T7S-R2E and, after going a short distance eastward, turned to the southeast and crossed Gray's Creek and Colyell Creek on its way to Springfield. On the original claims map, it is clearly labeled "Baton Rouge and Springfield Road" and is the only road so labeled.
