Reprinted by permission. Dedicated to the memory of Reuben Cooper and Raymond Riggs. MRS. HARRELL'S FERRY This fery continued the Baton Rouge and Springfield Public Road from East Baton Rouge Parish across the Amite River to Section 55, T7S-R2E in Livingston Parish. In an 1866 record, the name is given as "Mrs. Harrell's Ferry" (1) but later references give it as Harrell's Ferry or Old Harrell's Ferry, and it is spelled various ways. Members of the Christian Wisegauber family were the last persons to operate this ferry which was abandoned in 1915.
