T/S Charles Seldon Latham (Central Hi grad), radio operator on a Fortress, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in addition to previous awards of the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters. In close succession Maj. William Hendrick Byrd,Jr. (2905 Jefferson Ave.) was awarded the Air Medal and the Bronze Star. RdM 2/ Anthony Cardinal (Plaquemine Hi grad), veteran of Kiska, Tarawa, Guam, Leyte, for "outstanding service at Saipan" has received a Unit Citation. For leadership in attacks on Cologne, Wiesbaden and Sigen, the Distinguished Flying Cross has been given 1st Lt. James LeBlanc (Port Barre), who also wears the Air Medal and 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. For services in the ETO, Cpl. Ralph S. Hubbard,Jr. (RFD 2) has been awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Purple Heart. Sgt. Joseph Stout (Leonville) has been awarded the Legion of Merit for delivering vital equipment over 450 miles of rugged African terrain. In this he was assisted by one U.S. civilian and seven Italians. For services in the ETO, Capt. William Lane Rivers (BR Hi grad) has been awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star and Purple Heart. The BRONZE STAR has been awarded to: Col. USA W.W. Dixon, Jr., Purple Heart (LSU '15), veteran of War I, for gallantry in action in Germany. M/S Albert D. Currie, for operations against the Japs on Leyte. T/S Charles C. D'Agostino, for operations against the Japs on Leyte. Maj. Malcolm J. Douglas (Donaldsonville), with the 8th Armored division, ETO. Pfc. Kenneth Sanchez, "Red Arrow" division, for achievements on Leyte and Luzon. S/S Wiley F. Duke (Catholic Hi football star), for carrying wounded to safety in Luxembourg. Maj. Bill Winsberg (Opelousas), for services in Normandy. Lt. Willie Raiford West (LSU '43), with the 44th division. Cpl. Jesse Lea "Jake" Morrison (Jackson, McKowen Hi grad), for courage in Germany. Lt. USNR Robert Glenwood Black (LSU '41) Submarine Combat Insignia, for services in sinking 10,000 tons of enemy shipping. Sgt. Adam Guidroz (Mix), (posthumously), Combat Infantryman's Badge. S/S George Beverly Noland (University Hi grad, Ethyl), with an Oak Leaf Cluster, for services in the ETO. Pfc. James L. Williams (Plaquemine), with the "Tropic Lightning" division, Philippines, for aiding the evacuation of wounded. THE AIR MEDAL has been awarded to: S/S Thomas A. White (Prairieville, Coca-Cola), with an Oak Leaf Cluster, a engineer-top-turret gunner on a B-17 based on England. Lt. Horace J. Theriot,Jr., 435th Troop Carrier Group, for delivery of vital supplies, especially to Bastogne. S/S Donald J. Sims (BR Hi grad), with an Oak Leaf Cluster, as waist gunner and radio operator of a B-17 in the ETO. 1st Lt. Donald G. Pipes (7th Ward Hi grad), pilot with a photo rec. group in the ETO. Capt. Marion O. Brown (LSU '38), as aerial observer with the 5th Army, which is in additon to previous awards of the Bronze Star and Croix de Guerre avec Etolls de Vermeil. T/S James C.
