A retired employee from The Advocate with more than 30 years of service and a resident of Mobile, Ala., he died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in a Mobile hospital. He was a native of Marion, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Nellie Blair Elliott. He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Elliott Snyder of Mobile; a grandson, Peter R. Snyder Jr. of Atlanta; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Gardens, Hammond. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PICKART, PAULA MAE WALL Paula Mae Wall Pickart passed away Monday afternoon, Jan. 6, 2003. She was born in Kentwood on Jan. 27, 1918, the 11th of 16 children. She married Frank T. Pickart in 1942, when he was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II. She is survived by two children, Frank A. Pickart of San Antonio and Peggy Jane Pickart White of Metairie; a granddaughter, Tara A. White; and numerous nieces and nephews. She graduated with a degree in secondary education from Southeastern Louisiana University and a master's degree from Tulane University. She taught shorthand, typing and bookkeeping at Fortier High School in New Orleans until she retired in 1982. After retirement, she traveled extensively and wrote a family history book, "The Leas of Line Creek," which she dedicated to her mother, Mary Jane Wall. A wake will be held at Line Creek Baptist Church, near Kentwood, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral service at the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment in Line Creek Cemetery.
