Zola Barbara Stelz Coates, of Baton Rouge and formerly of Metairie, passed 
away on Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the age of 95. She was born Dec. 17, 1912, 
in New Orleans to Annie Bouchon Stelz and George Stelz. Preceded in death by 
her parents and her beloved husband of 64 years, Joseph R. Coates. Survived by 
her daughter, Barbara Ann Coates Bernard and husband Tommy; her grandchildren, 
Zola Bernard Trascher and husband Tim, Richard Joseph Bernard and wife Rhonda, 
Thomas Rogan Bernard Jr. and Virginia Rose Bernard; and her great-grandsons, 
Taylor, Zachary and Reese Trascher and Brenden Bernard. Relatives and friends 
are invited to attend the Catholic service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home 
Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., at 1 p.m. Monday, July 7. Entombment will 
follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the funeral 
home on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. For those so desiring, memorials in honor 
of Zola Stelz Coates may be made to Mount Carmel Academy, 7027 Milne Blvd., 
New Orleans, LA 70124.
