Deeply rooted in her Catholic faith, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Gerry was born Geraldine Olive Kolb in New Orleans on Nov. 13, 1930. She graduated as valedictorian from Annunciation High School in 1947. On Nov. 14, 1959, she married Henry Frank McKinell at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in New Orleans. In 1961, the couple moved to Shreveport and then, in 1976, to Baton Rouge, where they raised their three children and became active members of St. Thomas More Parish. She was employed by the Vieux Carré Commission (1947-1949), the Selective Service System (1949-1976) and St. Thomas More School Library (1977-1999). Gerry volunteered at her parish of St. Thomas More helping in the school and at church functions and was a blood donor for many years. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday, concelebrated by the Rev. Frank Bass and the Rev. Thomas Duhé. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Henry Frank McKinell; her son, Keith Francis McKinell; daughter and son- in-law, Kathleen and Dwayne Melancon; son and daughter-in-law, Kelly Joseph and Patricia DeLee McKinell; her brother and sisters-in-law, Francis Warren Jr. and Edelia Kolb and Elizabeth McKinell Breaux; and grandchildren, Daniel, Christine and Sara Jane Melancon. Preceded in death by her parents, Frank Warren Kolb Sr. and Antoinette Peeler Kolb; sister, Patricia Ann Kolb; and her brother, Ronald Leo Kolb. The family is grateful for the dedicated service provided by St. Joseph Hospice, her loving caregivers and the many friends who tirelessly provided support in so many ways. They have provided meals, housed relatives, have run all sorts of errands and, most important, have prayed vigilantly and have been a constant source of loving care and encouragement to our family.
