"Pepper" Ridley, 86, a retired food service supervisor with 23 years of service at Louisiana Training Institute, died at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at her home. She was a resident and native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at St. John Baptist Church, 820 New Rafe Mayer Road, on Sunday, July 20, from 5 p.m. until religious service at 7 p.m., conducted by Donald R. Ruth, pastor. Dismissal at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial in Southern Memorial Gardens. Survived by two daughters, Faye Morrison and spouse Robert, and Wanda G. Ridley, all of Baton Rouge; son, William H. Ridley Jr. and spouse Anita, of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, two of whom she reared, Larry Vessel and Lakisha Griffin, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and two godchildren, Pat Green Smith and Aldrich "Tiger" McCastle. Preceded in death by her parents, Walker Sulcer and Pearl Ross Wells; daughter, Laverne S. Vessel; grandson, William H. Ridley III; sister, Martha Selser; and brother, Eddie Sulcer. She was a graduate of McKinley High School and attended historic Leland College in Baker. She enjoyed fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. Arrangements by Carney-Mackey Funeral Home.
