Joseph "Joe" Stewart Jr., age 73, a retired employee of Borax Corp. in Boran, Calif., died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif. He was a resident of Panorama City, Calif., and a native of Slaughter. Visiting at Miller & Daughter Mortuary, Zachary, on Monday, July 7, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Visiting continues at Little Rock Baptist Church, Slaughter, on Tuesday, July 8, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Harris Hayes. Interment in the church cemetery. Survived by his mother, Anetter Lewis, of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Jolyn Stewart Minor, of Atlanta, and Alisha Stewart Robinson, of Baton Rouge; a son, Rozel Stewart and wife Angel, of Baton Rouge; his companion, Shirley Stewart, of Los Angeles; and six grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph Stewart Sr.; grandmother, Mable T. Washington; and former wife, Vivanese Lee Stewart. He attended Northwestern High School.
