Helen was born July 11, 1913, in Spokane, Wash. Her mother, Zena Theobold, taught piano lessons in their small apartment during the Great Depression. This is, most likely, where her deep appreciation for classical music was born. Her accomplishments were many. Most notably, she served as editor-in-chief of the Phoenix Gazette in the late 1950s. At age 65, she purchased and single-handedly ran a small dress boutique in the Oakland, Calif., estuary. She sold the business at age 78 and enjoyed her friends and family while residing in Walnut Creek, Calif. Preceded in death by her beloved son, Kenneth Warde; and grandson-in-law, Kevin Moore. Survived by her long time beau, Harry Mannering; her only daughter, Connie Warde Selmanoff; two grandchildren, Justin Selmanoff and Lisa Moore Teer and her husband Jason Teer; as well as two great-grandchildren, Nina and Nathan Moore. A private memorial in her honor took place Sunday morning at her granddaughter's residence in Baton Rouge.
