Ben was born to Bernard Richard Williams Sr. and Ruby Dean Ott Williams and reared in Osyka. Preceding him in death are his parents; and brother, Dr. Kenneth Ott Williams. Survived by his wife of 35 years, Linda Shanks Williams; son, Bernard Richard Williams III and his wife, Rachel, and their daughters, Sydney Ellen and Caroline; daughter, Lou Ellen Williams; daughter, Kay W. Knight and her husband, Scott, and her daughter, Adrienne LaFrance; and sister-in-law, Dr. Nancy Burrow Williams. Maj. Williams retired from the U.S. Air Force as a pilot with 27 years of service in World War II, the Korean conflict, Cold War and Vietnam War. After retirement he collaborated with Paul Ott to produce and write television spots for the Mississippi Game and Fish Commission. Ben graduated from Osyka High School in 1940. He later attended his beloved LSU and graduated as a distinguished military graduate, attaining his bachelor's and master of science degrees in horticulture. He was on the staff at LSU as an AFROTC instructor and later as a researcher in the Horticulture Department. For 25 years he served as a trustee on the board of directors of the Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, as the longest serving trustee. He was a Mason and a member of Osyka Baptist Church. A service of celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 21, at Osyka Baptist Church with visitation from 2 p.m. until service at 6 p.m. with Dr. Milton Kliesch officiating. Burial will be in the Osyka Cemetery with full military honors. Hartman- Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb, Miss., is in charge of arrangements.
