Kirkpatrick" Recorded Augt. 18th 1848 "Specification of a Sett of plans to be presented to Commissioners" for the Building of a Court House at Lake Providence Louisiana by James Kirkpatrick "In case said plans proposed should be accepted the following will be specificating Masons Part.": "Foundation" the base or fasting course to the Superstructure of Building to be two feet high & Levels to one and a half on the top as shown in technical Elevation, all the partition Foundations will be built in the same manner as the out Wall The Brick used in the foundation throughout must be hand burnt; The Brick used in the Building must be of good quality and those laid to the weather must be selected Red Brick & in no case will any soft or Salmon Brick be exposed to the weather.__ The Four columns in front are to be brick & the cornice also and are to be of the Doric proportions; & to be rough cut imitation of Stone.__ The wall under the Portico to be crafted with word five inches thick; The floor under the Portico to be paved with good paving brick, the outside Walls in the first Story to be eighteen inches thick; all partition Walls to be thirteen inches thick; The outside walls in the second Story to be thirteen Inches thick "The mortar used to be sharp Land & lime mortar;" "Plastering" the first & Second Storie to be plastered with three Coats the third Coat to be white & hand finished; all the plastering mortar used to be of good sharp Land and Lime mortar.__ the ceiling to Portico to be lathed & plastered with three Coats "Carpenter's Part" "Heighth of Story" The first story to be twelve feet from floor to ceiling __. The second story to be fourteen feet from floor to ceiling; the first floor to be two feet high with wide steps to front & rear as Drawn on plan; - "Joist," the joist of the first & second stories to be 2 1/2 by 12 inches and cut in lengths that they may rest on the partition Walls; The upper or Ceiling Joist will be 2 by 6 inches & cut in lengths so as to reach from one principal beam to another, all the joist to be placed 16 inches from Center to Center, the timber used for Joist throughout to be cypress, the first and second Floor of Joist to be Cross-bridged thus; "Roof" there will be six sett of principal rafters as shown on Sectional Elevation; the Jack Rafters to be 2 1/2 by 5 inches and placed 20 inches from Center to Center; The Rafters on Portico to be 2 1/2 by 5-7 inches - the shingles to be eighteen long & laid 4 1/2 inches to the weather and made of the heart of Cypress 1/2 inch thick; "Floors" all the flooring throughout must be 1 1/4 inches thick plains tongued & grooved & laid in Courses no course to exceed six inches in width, and all to be of seasoned lumber, free from black sap. shakes and rotten knots; "Doors" front and back doors to be in two fold with transom over the Doors as shown on Elevation; Doors to be 1 3/4 inches thick two pannels in each Door bead and but on one side.__ Door framing all to be 2 1/2 inch plank of finished inside with pilasters as shown on Sectional Elevation; all the Doors to be hung with 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 inch buts three hinges on each Door the front and back Doors to have one pair bolts and a nine inch Carpenters Lock with night keys to the front Door, "Windows" The window frames to be made of 2 1/2 inch plank and finished with jamb casing & pilasters with surbuce;__ as shown on Sectional Elevation the pilaster to be 1 1/8 inches thick, the Windows to have twelve lights of twelve by twenty inch Glass Sash to be 1 5/8 inches thick; there will be stone caps sills to the Windows;__ Windows to the first story to have shutters lined with sheet Iron, on the outside, & hung so as to close on the outside of the Window frame the front & rear Door of the first story to be lined with sheet Iron on the outside likewise; the Windows to the second story to have blinds 1 3/4 inches thick made of white Pine & hung with Clarks Congress Buts; & trimed Stanleys brass fastenings,__ "Base" the base throughout the building to the plain champhered, base of 7 inches high; "Stairs" the stairs will be as drawn on ground, planned with hand railing balusters & hand rails around well hole; __ "Mantels" the Mantels throughout to be made with plum pilasters with ????? on ground, the pilasters ??????? out 2 1/2 inches Mantels to have plum caps or shelves, "Court Room," the worktales finished in Court Room as figured on plan; "Cupola" to be finished as presented in the plan; Painting the whole of Carpenters work to be painted with three Coats;__ "IronWork" the front & rear Doors of second story to have an Iron Railing "the Joist in the second story to be anchored to the Wall four anchors on each Wall The Contractor is to clear all the rubbage out of the House & yard at his own expense; Specification of a plan for a Court-House at Lake Providence Louisiana No 1 adopted by the Police Jury & accepted by the Commissioners.
