State of Louisiana Parish of Carroll Be it known & Remembered that 
before me Came Penninah Galloway who states that she was formally wife 
of Allen Even, who died & that she intermarried with John W. Wheeler 
who also died & that afterwards she intermarried with & was Lately Wife 
of Gideon Halford with whom she intermarried on or about the 29 day of 
December AD 1845 that her Said Husband died in this parish on or about 
the 15o day of December AD 1848, that her said husband had no property 
when she married, but that she was in possession of all the property 
which she now possesses: -- that at the Death of her Said Husband and 
at the time her said husband & she intermarried, the said Halford was 
very much embarrassed with Debts, that he had the exclusive 
administration and control of the Community property and that she never 
?i? possessed herself of her undivided right to any property she 
formerly possessed, but that she never execised any control over any 
Community existing between her and her Said Husband, but her said 
husband Controled and managed the same if any existed: -- Wherefore for 
the purpose of Saving her individual property and herself from any 
responsibility for any of the debts of her Said Husband as of the 
Community - she does hereby formally Renounce, all right title interest 
or claim to the Said Community property if any except So much as she 
may be entitled to by Law for the retition of her paraphernal property 
which her Said husband may have used or disposed of without her consent 
or otherwise to his advantage hereby reserving all her Said rights 
claims or privileges & claims to her individual property & Renouncing 
all others except as above Specified - Thus done & passed on this 
twenty third Day of December AD 1848 - in the Parish of Carroll 
Louisiana in presence of James W. Hall and James McGuire Lawfull & 
competent witnesses who have signed as such with the Said appearer and
