Record 16th
July 1839.

Be it remembered, that on this sixteenth day of July, in the year of 
our lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-nine, Before me Felix 
Bosworth, Parish Judge in and for the parish of Carroll in the state of 
Louisiana, personally came and appeared the persons whose names are 
hereunto subscribed, who declared that whereas on the twenty-second day 
of June last, 1839, in the afternoon of said day, in this town, 
Providence, Louisiana, at the Tavern of Keller = Pully, a disorderly 
man who called himself "Jennings" came into the said tavern and 
conducted himself in a very rude and boisterous manner, to the great 
annoyance of the persons in and about said tavern __ Whereupon Jacob 
Keller, one of the proprietors of the said tavern, and who is a 
peaceable and respectable citizen of said town of Providence, attempted 
to expel the intruder from the tavern, and in the encounter, the 
intruder said Jennings, bit off about one fourth part of said Keller's 
right Ear __ and the said Jennings fled from Justice. == Done this 
sixteenth day of July, A.D. Eighteen hundred and thirty-nine, in 
presence of Charles H. Webb and James E. Old, witnesses residing in 
said parish of Carroll, who have signed this act with the said
