The petition of William Haynes residing in the State of La. and Parish of Carroll states that early Jan. 1888 Mark Newton, a resident of said state and parish, died leaving no property and afterwards, in the same year his widow, Maria Newton also, died leaving no property. Left two minor children, George and Bertha, ages eight and ten years old. Family of friends were Richard Holms, Isaiah Jefferson, William Wilson, Frank Baney and Dr. Andrew Johnson. Signed 28th day of Dec. 1891. William Haynes appointed tutor and Thomas Holmes appointed undertutor.
