July 28, 1905 With profound sorrow we yield to the going home of our beloved friend and pastor, Rev. F.O.H. Boberg, who departed this life July 10th, 1905, at the home of his adopted father, Rev. A. Gordon Blakewell, New Orleans, La. In Mr. Boberg we have lost a faithful, loving friend, and a pastor who was untiring in his parish work, a man who gave his life for his people and his God. He was loyal to his Master, and so anxious to serve, that he seemed to forget that his body was not endowed with the same indomitable endurance, which was his mentally and spiritually. He over-taxed his physical strenghth and succumbed to the ravages of over-work. There was so much to be done in the vineyard, and the laborers were few; he was filled with Christian zeal and love for humanity, that we did not realize he was making a sacrifice of himself for the little flock in his charge. We fell that we have been blessed in having such a life among us, and the memory of his love for his people, his cheering words, and his bright smile will be a benediction that will uplift us to see, and to live the Christ-life as he taught us. Our loss is irreparable--our only consolation that he is with the Lord he so loved so well. It is our desire to carry on his work as best we can without him, to make our efforts a memorial to his life and to his death. We feel that for us he has laid down his life, and we must not let it be in vain, for, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Today he intercedes for us at the Throne of Mercy and asks Gods blessings on our work. We regret that we shall miss him When Spring's first roses bloom, To scatter a wealth of fragrance All round about his tomb. Aye, we know that we shall miss him -- Tho' his form lies neath the sod, While Eternity's sweet music Chimes through the Courts of God. But his soul erect and full of strenth, Sings now a glad acclaim That rises vast and eloquent To Jesus' sweet refraim. Jessy Y. Bonney Tallulah, La.
