May 17, 1906 The community was shocked yesterday by the news of the sudden death of Horace Garth Jones, a native of Vicksburg, and son of Captain W.S. Jones of the Merchants' National Bank; in which the deceased was employed as exchange clerk and chief assistant to his father, the cashier. He was one of the most popular and worthy young men of the city, and his untimely taking off has caused sorrow in a large circle of friends and relatives. By his death a devoted wife and two young children are bereft of their natural protector. He leaves, besides a father, a brother, and two sisters, Mrs. Neely and Mrs. Priestly, to grieve for him. The event that has carried mourning into one of the most estimable families in the community has aroused the deepest sympathy- The Vicksburg Herald.
