Vicksburg Register March 1835
 Died at the lower settlement on the Bayou Macon in the parish of Carroll, 
State of Louisiana on Monday the 30th 1835, John Dempsey, Sen. aged about 70 
years, one among the first settlers on Lake Providence, and for many years 
past a very respectable citizen of the parishes of Carroll and Ouachita.  He 
left behind a large family of grown children and grandchildren, to lament his 
death.  He lived to a good age, and to see "A wilderness to smile!"
