April 25 The state convention of the Daughters of the Confederacy was closed this evening. The proceedings, while contined to reports and routine business, ere exceding interesting. The officers were elected for the ensuing year as follows: Mrs. J. Pinckney Smith, of New Orleans, president; Mrs.N.C. Blanchard, of Shreveport, first vice president; Mrs. Pete Youree, of Shreveport, first vice president; Mrs. Gilbert, of Napoleonville, third vice president; Mrs. T.P. Singleton, fourth vice president; Miss M. Walshe of Thibodaux, treasurer; Mrs. D.M. Sholars, of New Orleans, corresponding secretary; Mrs. W.N. White of Lake Providence, recording secretary; Mrs. T.B. Pugh, of Napoleonville, historian; Mrs. Scanland of Benton, registrar; Mrs.A.S. Vaught of New Orleans, chairman of the relief committee. The next session will be held at Napoleonville. Mrs. Smith declined the election for a second term but her friends insisted unanimously that she must accept the presidency, as she has endeared herself to the members of the state chapter, and is an able, gracious president.
