November 25, 1904 The board of Directors of the Monroe and Lake Providence Railroad Company met last night in the office of the Progressive League for the purpose of elceting officers and transacting other important business. There were present either in person or by proxy the following menbers of the directorate; E.J. Hamley, J.S. Guenard, J.M. Hill, T.J. Powell and V.M. Purdy, of Lake Providence, and J.P. Parker, U. Millsaps, J.S. Handy, E.T. Lankin, R.B. Blanks, L.D.V. Logan, Judge A.A. Gunby, L.D. McLain and R.A. Shotwell, of Monroe. Judge Gunby was elected president, E.J. Hamley vice-president, R.A. Shotwell treasurer and H.D. Apgar, secretary. After the election of officers arrangements were made for the necessary money to prosecute the preliminary work, such as surveys and securing rights of way, and the president was authorized to employ a competent person to secure rights of ways. The road will run from Lake Providence to Monroe through the parishes of East and West Carroll and of Monroe and Ouachita. The people of the town of Lake Providence and the wards of East and West Carroll and of Monroe, and Ouachita Parish.
