So anxious to live, so nobly prepared to die. His heart ever melted at the appeal of charity. He was the widow's friend, and the orphan's benefactor. Many of his acts of benevolence were known only to the recipicents. He did not give to be praised of men, but it flowed out of he fountain of noble impulses, which was set in his soul, whose wellspring was the instinct of his knightly nature. He attained very near the height of goodness, which is a broad humanity, a love of the public, and a constant aim to help the helpless. He was the dispenser of true hospitality in his home, aim to help the helpless. He was the dispenser of true hospitality in his home, where his life as husband and father is now a hallowed history.
