Funeral services for Simelo "Billy Ray" Joyner Sr., age 74 of Lake Providence, La will be 10:00AM, Monday, May 4, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Lake Providence with Pastor Mitch Minson and Rev. Stowe Harbin officiating. Interment will be in the Providence Memorial Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Lake Providence. Visitation will Sunday from 5PM - 8PM at Cox Funeral Home. Mr. Joyner retired from the U.S. Postal service after 38 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Providence. He served his country in the 2nd Division of the United States Marine Corp. and was a member of the American Legion -Powell Martin Barrett Post #37. He is preceded in death by his parents, Simcoe Joyner and Cascille Joyner; step-father, Edward Williams; sisters, Bobbie Joyner and Murry Hall. Billy Ray is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Clement Joyner of Lake Providence, La; son and daughter-in-law, Simelo Joyner Jr. and Nel Joyner of Clinton, MS; daughter, Lori Beth Joyner of Tallulah, La; grandchiuldren, Sarah and Hannah Joyner; niece, Shari Sanders and husband Gary; nephew, William "Billy" Hall and wife Vicky; cousins, Tillman Person, Donnie Person, Debbie Joyner McCain; brother-in-law, LaBane Clement and wife Jennette; sisters-in-law, Janice Owens and Theresa Hosey. Pallbearers will be Ralph McCurdy, Roger Clement, Johnny House, Andy Brister, John Wesley Clement, Stowe Harbin. Additional Comments: Born in Ashland, Louisiana on Feb. 19, 1935 Departed on May 2, 2009 and resided in Lake Providence, LA.
