Mills as principal and as security, R.M. Maben both residents of the Parish of Carroll, Louisiana, are held and firmly bound unto the State of Louisiana, in the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars, current money of the United States of America, for the payment of which we bind ourselves firmly by these Presents, this the 2nd of January A.D. 1866. And it is upon this condition that whereas the above bound W.T. Mills has this day applied to the Clerk of the 13 District Court, of said Parish and State, and obtained from him a License to marry Mistress L.A. Caldwell. Now, if within two years from the date hereof, there should not appear to be any legal impediment to said marriage, then the above obligation to be null and void, otherwise to remain in full force. /s/ W.T. Maben Marriage License State of Louisiana Parish of Carroll, Thirteenth District Court To any Minister of the Gospel or Justice of the Peace, legally authorized to solemnize Marriage in said Parish. You are hereby licensed and fully empowered to unite in Holy Wedlock, Mr. W.T. Mills and Mistress L.A. Caldwell agreeably to the usual ceremonies and laws of said State, in the presence of three competent witnesses, and that certify the same signed by the parties together with the witnesses and your official signature, and due return made to this office. Given under my hand and Seal of the District Court of the Parish of Carroll, Louisiana, this the 2nd day of January A.D. 1866 /s/ J.L. Cheatham……… Clerk State of Louisiana, Parish of Carroll Be it remembered that on the 3rd of January A.D. 1866 W.T. Mills and Mrs. Elizabeth Caldwell the former a resident of Miss the latter a resident of this Parish of Carroll State of Louisiana and in said Parish personally appeared before me Wm C. Perris on of the Justice of the Peace in & for the parish of Carroll together with Martin Cassetty, W.A. McLemore & Thos Maben all witnesses of full age and Residents in said Parish and that these and there the said W.T. Mills & Mrs. Elizabeth Caldwell having produced the license required by law signified their desire and intention before us the said justice and witnesses to be united in the state of matrimony where upon after due proclamation made and no impediments being suggested they the said W.T. Mills & Elizabeth Caldwell were by me the said justice in the presence of said witnesses joined in wedlock according to the laws of the State of Louisiana, and duly pronounced husband & wife. In testimony where of the parties to said marriage here affix the signatures together with the signature of me the Justice and that of the witness on this the 3rd January 1866 As in Parish above said. /s/ M.
