Published in 1914, by Century Historical Association. Sewell, Bennette N., M. D., is a highly esteemed citizen of Boyce, parish of Rapides, La.; able physician, prosperous planter. He is a native (born July 21, 1870), of East Feliciana parish, La.; the son of Bennette Ware and Angie (Coleman) Sewell, both natives of Georgia. They had 2 sons and 4 daughters, all of whom are living. Dr. Sewell, second in the family, completed his literary education at Centenary college, Jackson, La studied medicine in the medical department of Tulane university, New Orleans, graduating in 1893. After a residence of 2 years at Arbroth, La., he went to Boyce, where he has been residing ever since, and enjoying a very lucrative practice. He is owner of a plantation 5 miles from the town of Boyce, and is interested, also, in mercantile business. The Parish, State and American Medical societies have his name on the rolls of membership; and he is affiliated with the Order of Woodmen of the World. The marriage of Dr. Sewell and Miss Althea Self was solemnized in 1902. Their conjugal life was cruelly severed by the hand of death, when, in 1910, Mrs. Sewell passed away. There were 2 children in the family. One daughter, Laura E. Sewell, died in infancy; the sole living offspring is Bennette N., Jr.
