White the recorder in and for the Parish of East Feliciana state of Louisiana duly commissioned and sworn and by law vested with authority to exercise all the powers and perform all the duties that appertain to public notaries in general and in presence of the witnesses herein after named and under signed personally came and appeared at my office Mr. William H. Cobb residing in said parish of East Feliciana of the first part who declared that he had sold and by these presents doth sell, assign, transfer, release, convey and deliver with all legal warranties and subrogation unto Mr. Clinton Allen, resident of the parish of Livingston in said state of Louisiana (here present accepting and purchasing for himself his heirs and assigns and waiving the certificate of mortgage required by article 3325 of the civil code of the state of Louisiana) the following property to wit: A certain negro woman named Ellen aged 17 years and her child boy Bill aged one year both slaves for life and the bonafide property of him said William Howell Cobb, and free from the vices and defects known to the state of Louisiana and free from any liens or mortgages of any kind. The present sale is made and accepted for and in consideration of the price and sum of eight hundred dollars cash paid by said purchaser in and presence the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and a full discharge and acquittance given in favor of said purchaser. To have and to hold said slaves Ellen and child Bill unto the said Clinton Allen his heirs and assigns to their proper use and benefit forever. And the said vendor moreover subrogate said purchaser to all his rights and actions in property and warranty for him to exercise and enjoy as he could have done himself. In testimony whereof the parties sign hereunto after the reading thereof, in presence of me said recorder and in that of C H E White and I W New assisting witnesses this fourteenth day of Jan. eighteen hundred and fifty one. And the witnesses having signed as such with said parties, I said recorder grant these presents under my seal and signature official this day of the date last above written. William H.
