One of the saddest deaths occuring in our town was that of Miss Arabelle Austin, aged 18 years, youngest daughter of Mr. John T. Austin, who has been ill for some months with tuberculosis. She was one of the senior class of the W. R. McKowen High School and well loved among her companions for her gentleness and loving disposition. She was faithfully nursed by her devoted sister, Miss Myrtle Austin, until the end came last Thursday morning, when she gently passed into Rest. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. J. Davies, her pastor, and the body was laid to rest in the family plot at New Hope. Those accompanying the sorrowing family were Mrs. E. Peterson, Mrs. M. Gilmore, Miss May Peterson, Rev. S. J. Davies, Messrs. Reily Palmer and Hines Austin. Additional Comments: Arabelle was the daughter of John T. Austin and his wife, Henrietta. Henrietta is on the 1900 US Federal Census, but by the 1910 Census, John is listed as a widower. Arabelle's siblings were Myrtle, Theodore and Willie. John's occupation was listed on the 1910 census as an attendant at an insane asylum and his address was Market Street in Jackson, Louisiana. John would pass away a few months later in June 1915.
