He was retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years of service. Also retired from the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson as a VA counselor. Survived by his wife of 26 years, Juanita T. Cavin; three sons, Charles E. Jr., Stephan A. and Brian K. Cavin; three stepsons, Alton Z. Jr., Danny E. and Shane L. Teekel Sr.; and 11 grandchildren, Alton Z. Teekel III, Brandon C. Teekel, Dustin P. Teekel, Tyler B. Teekel, Ryan D. Teekel, Shane Lee Teekel Jr., Allison C. Teekel, Joshua W. Teekel, Matthew G. Teekel, Emily Cavin and Ryan Cavin; and two sisters, Pearlie Eldridge and Rosie Letty Flynn. Preceded in death by his parents, William Claude and Carolina Edwina Cavin; sister, Yvonne Hudson; and four brothers, Van P., Carl J., Jessie R. and James C. Cavin. Pallbearers will be Alton Z. Teekel Jr., Danny E. Teekel, Shane L. Teekel Sr., Dustin P. Teekel, Alton Z. Teekel III and Brandon C. Teekel. He was a man who loved his family very much and enjoyed every moment of life that he had with them. Visitation at Charlet Funeral Home, Zachary, on Monday, July 21, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10 a.m. Burial in Port Hudson National Cemetery.
