File 12, Doc 5 Petition of James Jackson Albritton, a minor son of Richard Albritton, dec., states that he has arrived at the age of puberty, that he was 14 years of age on 8 February 1829, and is by law entitled to be his own curator. Labourn Kent was appointed tutor to him in Pike County, Miss., and that "Labourn Kent resides permanently out of the State of Louisiana" and James Jackson Albritton is entitled to his part of his father (Richard Albritton)'s estate from James Albritton of E.F.P. He asks the court to appoint Thomas C. Brown as his curator and Zachariah Brown as co-curator, to collect his property due in E.F.P. Wittnesses: L. P. File 12, Doc 6 Before Lafayette Saunders, P.J., came Jesse Albritton, Stephen Albritton, Sothy Hays, Ellis Gore, and John Morgan, and were sworn as members of family meeting. And after having heard the petition of Mrs. Margaret Albritton, decided the tract of land mentioned in the petition should be sold. Saunders, P.J., authorizes a family meeting be held composed of persons in Doc 11, except Nelson Neasom was asked first, then "having made default" Ellis Gore is asked in his place. File 12, Doc 13 Petition to the Probate Judge of E.F.P. from Margaret Albritton, states that her deceased husband, Richard Albritton, made before his death some purchases of land & slaves; that the payments will come due in early 1837, and that "the small revenue arising from her farm" will not be enough to make the payments. She therefore asks permission to sell a portion of the estate. She also states that "the tract of land on which petitioner now resides" was bought after their marriage by her husband Richard and Thomas Albritton, and is therefore held in common between herself and Thomas Albritton. She asks that the property in common between herself and Thomas Albritton be sold. She also wishes to sell some personal property belonging to her husband's estate "which is subject to waste and decay". By William Dunn, atty to petitioner. File 12, Doc 14 Results of probate sale of the estate of Richard Albritton, dec'd, "made at the last residence of dec.". 29 July 1836: after advertisement made in the "Olive Branch", a newspaper published in Clinton, terms of sale given. Land: "the undivided 1/2 of a tract of land containing 160 acres, being the place at which the dec. resided at the time of his death, and being held jointly by him & his brother Thomas Albritton, the same purchased by the said Thomas Albritton & the dec. from Mary M. Laughin, being the SE 1/4 of the section donated to James Grubbs", sold to Albert G. Penny for $900, with Matthew Edwards as his security. Witnesses: Thomas Albritton, Hugh L.
