Bacon, 53 years old and prominent Ville Platte citizen, were conducted here Saturday morning at the Catholic Church and cemetery, Father J. M. Bourgeois officiating. Mr. Bacon had moved to Ville Platte from Mamou only a few months preceding his death. His newly built general merchandise and hardware store here was one of the latest additions to local business and enterprise. Forty members from the Mamou, Ville Platte and Eunice Woodmen of the World camps were here for the funeral procession and ceremony at the grave. Wesley McCauley, consul commander of the Mamou camp, was in charge of the ceremonies. Mr. Bacon was a charter member and financial secretary of the Mamou camp for fifteen years. He is suvived [sic] by his wife, formerly Miss Carrie Buller of Ville Platte, two sisters and a brother: Mrs. Bernard Pierottie and Miss Amanda Bacon, and Russell Bacon, all of Mamou. Deceased was a son of Louis Bacon and Carrie Chachere, among the earliest pioneer settlers of the Mamou section. He served as both mayor and alderman of Mamou when the town was a small village following its incorporation approximately 24 years ago. In fact, he was always foremost in all the activities of Mamou and Evangeline parish progress.
