Duplissey,known to his friends as Uncle Charley,died at his home on Cocodrie Bayou November 5,1942.He had been in ill health for the last three years,but would only go to bed when he was unable to sit up. Mr. Duplissey was 89 years,one month and 22 days old at the time of his death. He was born September 14, 1853,near Magnolia Park in Grant parish and was the third son of Jeremiah Duplissey and Rachel Franks Duplissey.At the age of 20 he fought in the Colfax Riot where the white people came out victorious over the negroes. He was the last survivor of this riot. In his late years he enjoyed talking about the riot and about history in general. He had a number of relics which he enjoyed showing to friends. In 1877 he married Mary A. Hebert and one child was born to them,Mary R.A. Duplissey of Forest Hill who survives him. Mrs. Duplissey died in 1879 and Mr. Duplissey then married Catherine J.Fitzgerald in 1880. To this union was born nine children,two of whom precede him in death. They were Jeremiah and Charles W. Duplissey. Surviving children are Coleman Y.Duplissey,Samuel D.Duplissey,Eldeller D. Ratcliff,Emma D. Fontenot,all of Ville Platte; Mrs. J.D. Raborn of Baton Rouge,Mrs.C.L.Smith of Beaver,La.,and Mrs. J.J.Williamson of Lecompte. He leaves two half sisters, Mrs.Doshie Pratt of Ville Platte and Mrs. Rosia Brewster of Monroe and two half brothers,C.C.Duplissey of Forest Hill and J.M. Duplissey of Columbia, La. He also leaves 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at his residence with the Rev.Mr.Ivy of Lecompte officiating. Interment was in the Duplissey cemetery under the direction of the Hargrove Funeral Home of Oakdale.
