From now on there awaits for me a crown of righteousness, not only for me but for all who wait on His appearance." It is with great sadness that the family of Melvin Joseph Fontenot announces his passing. Melvin passed into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, April 16, 2016 at The Carpenter House in Lafayette, LA. at the age of 92. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte. Burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Park Cemetery with Father Mitchell Guidry officiating services. The family requests that visitation be observed at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Ville Platte beginning on Tuesday at 8:30 AM until time of service, with a Rosary to be recited at 2:30 PM. Melvin is survived by his wife Jessie Rene L. Fontenot of Ville Platte; his children Martha Jonetta F. Thompson and husband David, Francis K. Fontenot, Charlotte F. Savoy and husband Arthur, and Joe Fontenot and wife Sue all of Lafayette; four step-children, Billie Jean Vidrine of Ville Platte, Keith McDaniel and wife Coopey of Eunice, Benjie Gaspard and husband Mike of Quitman, and Kevin McDaniel and wife Jamie of Ville Platte; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one brother Dalbis Fontenot of Ville Platte. He was preceded in death by his parents, Savio Fontenot and Ella McGee Fontenot, his first wife, Barbara ''Butch'' Deshotels Fontenot, brother Ezema Fontenot and two sisters, Earline Fontenot and Betty F. Sylvester. Melvin Joseph Fontenot was a native of Point Blue, Louisiana and was a resident of Ville Platte for most of his life. He was a Veteran of the military, proudly serving in the United States Army during WWII. Melvin worked as an Instrument Mechanic for the Cabot Corporation in Ville Platte for over 30 years. He was a past member of the Woodmen of the World and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed camping, visiting with friends, going to the casino and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to give special thanks to The Carpenter House for their kindness, compassion and devoted care to Melvin and his family during their time of need. Ardoin's Funeral Home, 709 W.
