Vernon L. Fontenot Jr.
October 17, 1946 - December 14, 2018

PINE PRAIRIE -  Funeral services for Mr. Vernon Lawrence Fontenot Jr., 72, 
will be held at 11AM Monday December 17, 2018 in the St. Peter’s Catholic 
Church in Pine Prairie with burial to follow in the Vandenburg Cemetery in 
Bayou Chicot.

Mr. Fontenot, a resident of Pine Prairie, passed away Friday December 14, 
2018 at Mercy Regional Medical Center. He served as fire chief in Bayou 
Chicot for years, and spent 25 years involved with the fire department, even 
being a founder of the Bayou Chicot First Responders. He also served as 
Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus 5048 in Pine Prairie.

He will be very missed by his greatest treasures, his family and 
grandchildren. Vernon is survived by his wife Linda Chaffin Fontenot of Pine 
Prairie; sons Steve Fontenot and wife Paula of Oakdale, Larry P. Fontenot 
and wife Erica of L’anse Griese; daughters Theresa Gray and husband Prentiss 
of Holden, LA, Sharon Fontenot of Pine Prairie; sisters Merlyn Yielding and 
husband Simon of Bayou Chicot, Helen Fontenot and husband Kenneth of 
ALexandria; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by 
his parents Vernon L. Fontenot Sr. and Lenius Vidrine Fontenot.

Visitation will be held at LaVille Funeral Home Sunday December 16, 2018 
from 3PM-9PM, with a rosary being recited at 6PM, and will resume again 
Monday December 17, 2018 at 8AM.
