Death of Neuville Guillory, Sr.

Ville Platte, La., Feb 5. - Mr. Neuville Guillory, Sr., died at his 
residence, in Prairie Mamou, on Sunday, January, 30, 1910, at 4 o'clock p. 
m.

His soul left this terrestial sphere to join its maker.

The death of this noble old Creole was an apparently painful one. It 
occurred after an illness of several months. His malady was dropsy.

His death is a shock to his many relatives and friends.

Deceased was highly esteemed in the community in which he lived, and by all 
who knew him and his many excellent qualities. He was a very ambitious man, 
but his life has been one devoted to the welfare of his fellowmen and the 
good of his country.

In 1861, when a mere youth of 17 years, he enlisted as a volunteer in the 
Confederate army, in the 28th Louisiana Regiment. He was wounded aboard the 
gunboat G. & A. Cotton, near Vicksburg, while on duty. At the close of 
hostilities he returned to his father's home - one of the earliest of the 
homes built in the then wilderness of western St. Landry. He married Miss 
Alida Soileau.

Deceased was a scientific and successful farmer, and was among the first to 
join the Farmers' Union.

He leaves a wife and six children. The latter are all married.

His death is deeply mourned.

NOTE: Neuville Guillory, Sr. is buried at the Platin cemetery located in 
Vidrine, Evangeline Parish, LA.
