Creamer marykcreamer@yahoo.com April 4, 2019, 9:32 pm source: The Ville Platte Gazette (Ville Platte, Louisiana) Saturday, 30 October, 1937, pg. 1 Aged Physician Dies Thursday Morning; Passing a Shock to Many Friends The death of Dr. Herschel Curry Milburn, for more than a score of years a well known and beloved figure in this community and all of Evangeline parish, at 3:45 Thursday morning was a shock to his countless friends and cast a blanket of gloom over an otherwise beautiful day. Dr. Milburn, as he was affectionately known by young and old, came to Ville Platte while Evangeline parish was still a part of St. Landry. He was here for the division of the parish, and during his twenty-seven years in this section he saw and helped the development of both Ville Platte and the surrounding territory. Dr. Milburn was a graduate of Tulane medical school. The deceased practiced medicine here until about two years ago when failing health made it impossible to any longer attend his patients. A compilation of his many acts of kindness, charities, and efforts for public good would fill a volume. It suffices to say that he leaves behind him countless friends and pleasant memories, unmarred by a single unfriendly act. At the time of his death, Dr. Milburn was nearing 77 long and useful years in the service of public welfare. While in poor health for more than two years, he still was seen often about the streets of Ville Platte. Wednesday night he suffered a slight stroke; physicians were unable to curb the trouble and he died very quietly several hours later. Funeral services for the deceased were conducted in the Old Ville Platte cemetery Thursday afternoon. The many friends who attended and offered tributes to his memory were mute testimony to the high esteem in which he was held. Surviving the deceased are his wife, Mrs. H. C. Milburn, of Ville Platte, and the following children: Mrs. Allen Parker, Ville Platte, Mrs. J. Nadeau, New Orleans, Mrs. Egan Lisso, New Orleans, M. M. Milburn, of Eunice, Miss Ruth Milburn, Thibodeaux, Miss Myra Milburn, of New Orleans.
