We lived about 200 yards from this old cemetery. The cemetery consisted of one part which was still actively used and maintained by local blacks and an adjacent much older unkept and inactive white cemetery. The actively used part of the cemetery was next to a cotton field and was grassy, not wooded. A small part of the cemetery adjacent to but slightly away from those grave sites, next to a small branch (creek), contained an old cedar tree surrounded by brush and vines. Tumbled under and within the brush and vines were several badly eroded old 19th century gravestones. Several of them dated from the 1850s, a couple were dated in the 1870s. I was aware even as a child that both parts of this cemetery represented a part of the early history of Franklin Parish. Those older graves in the tangle of trees and vines are the ones for which I have provided the tombstone notes above. There was also a small fenced family gravesite nearby, within the brushy area and less than a hundred feet from the old cedar tree, which contained headstones or markers for few more recent early 20th century graves. Thank you to: The manager of the cemetery , Mary A Wilson, assisted by Clara Wilson. *********** NEWER SECTION Submitted by :DeWanna Robinson Lindo Sept. 2015 Alexander, Estella b. 1893 d. 1987 Bradford, Alberta b. unknown d.
