Direct descendants of the first governor of the "State of Franklin," now known as Tennessee, the family came to Boeuf Prairie in the early 1800', purchasing large holdings along Boeuf River. Listed on the rolls of the first Police Jury of Franklin Parish is M. B. Desha, a powerful influence in the organization of the first parish government, which was located in Boeuf Prairie. Jim Desha, son of M. B. died while in the Confederate Army. His widow married Captain W. P. Powell, a pioneer publisher of the Franklin Sun.
