He married Nancy E. Roberts on June 2, 1860. He was 24 years old when he was recruited to enlist at Winnsboro, La. on Feb. 2, 1862. He was the son of Mills and Mary Barfield. Benjamin was the brother of Francis, George and Zacharia Barfield of the same Company. Benjamin has a conflicting record. His pension application states that he was severly wounded at Sharpsburg, MD. on Sept 17, 1862, lost a limb and went home never to return. His service record indicates that he was wounded by a shell wound to the side and hip at 2nd. Fredricksburg on May 4, 1863. He was also captured there and admitted to the U.S. Hospital on May 10, 1863. There is no record other than being paroled at Appomattox Court House on April 10, 1865. He died in Franklin Parish on Dec. 24, 1883 and is buried in the John Hall Family Cemetery.
