Battalion Louisiana Infantry Benjamin Franklin Broadway was enlisted by Captain Duncan Buie onSeptember 21, 1861 in Richmond Virginia. He was given a medical discharge on April 5, 1862 in Camp Hope, Georgia. No reason why is listed. He then went back to Louisiana and enlisted in Company C, 31st Louisiana Infantry about a month later. He served in that unit for about a year, and was given a second medical discharge. This time however, information is given as to why. He suffered from severe rheumatism, and was unable to properly use his feet, legs and hips.
